Dr. Gregory Brown is going to be leading us in a discussion about “How Religious Faith Beliefs Obstruct Fair and Honest Moral and Political Debate and Undermine the Separation of Church and State.” I will explain the reasons why I think religious faith beliefs obstruct fair and honest moral and political debates, and I will illustrate this by discussing an exchange that took place during a televised CNN townhall meeting on October 14 between James Talarico and one of the audience participants concerning the relation between Christian faith belief in the Bible and the issue of abortion. I will end the presentation with a discussion of the long history of how appeal to religious belief has been used to erode the wall separating church and state in the US and how it continues to do so.

We are sad to announce that Dorothy Bracey, dedicated member of our planning team, has moved to Arizona. We desperately need some other creative people to join the Freethinker team which plans topics and activities. We welcome online participants as well as those who participate in person to share their suggestions and help us keep Freethinkers Forum alive and well! Contact Mary Ellen or Mim if you are interested, or have suggestions of people you'd like to propose. And we're happy to welcome Courtney McBride to our team as an online coordinator!

Freethinkers Forum meets the second Sunday of every month from noon - 1:30 pm in a hybrid format, in person at UU Santa Fe on the corner of Barcelona and Galisteo, and via zoom. To get the zoom link, go to Events on our meetup site, and click that you will attend, then you can access the zoom link at the Online event icon.

We are a gathering of freethinkers and humanists, people from all faiths or none, who come together to discuss collaboratively-chosen topics, to listen with open minds, share with open hearts, work together on social activism projects and share supportive community. Our general format is a short presentation followed by an hour or so of open discussion of the subject. All are welcome, and all outlooks on the topics are respected. We aim to learn from each other and celebrate our diversity!
