version anglaise

Since 12th century, thanks to a woman named Marie de France , women
have been represented in literature and since then, each century saw
the birth of those women's works. They have been called femmes de
lettres , femmes auteurs ou crivaines , sometimes autrices
, auteuses ou autoresses . This continuous production of
written works by women is one of the singularities of French
Literature. It does not appear in other European literatures.

Who are those women? What are their favourite topics? How do they come
to the literary world? Do they have equal careers with men's? Do they
encounter difficulties? How do the public receive their works?

By evocating various works and fates of women in literature, the
conference will try to answer all those questions

The Conference will be followed by a presentation of books from the
Collection Femmes de Lettres by Parenthses bookshop, around a
glass of wine and French cheese
