Bienvenue! This group is for people in Otay Ranch, Chula Vista, and nearby communities who want to practice French while meeting new people and exploring the many cultures of the Francophone world.

You do not need to be fluent. Native and heritage speakers, intermediate learners, brave beginners, rusty former French students, and anyone simply interested in French language and culture are welcome.

Our meetups will be relaxed and social rather than classroom-style. Depending on the group, we can explore:

☕ Casual French conversation over coffee, food, or drinks
🌍 Cultural exchange from France, Québec, Belgium, Switzerland, Africa, the Caribbean and other Francophone communities
🎬 French-language movies, music, books and podcasts
🥐 Food, traditions, travel and everyday life
🎲 Conversation games and themed discussion nights
🗣️ Opportunities for native speakers and learners to exchange languages and perspectives

The idea is simple: practice without pressure, learn from one another, and build a little Francophone community here in South San Diego.

Adults first, youth potentially next

We’ll begin with an 18+ group so we can establish a regular community and meetup rhythm.

However, if enough parents and young French speakers or learners are interested, we’d love to create a separate youth French conversation and cultural exchange group in the future.

French speakers from all countries, cultures, and backgrounds are especially encouraged to join. French is much bigger than France, and cultural exchange is a central part of what we want this group to be.
