What is "Les Salons de Modeste"?
Imagine meeting dozens of new people in an unexpected way. The Salons de Modeste is a free, annual gathering that's been a beloved tradition in Fribourg since 1995. Created as a popular counterpoint to the old aristocratic Parisian salons, this event reimagines the concept of gathering around a simple idea: **to create genuine human connection between people who live in the same city but may never have met.**
On the evening of the event, local residents open their homes and salons (living rooms) to complete strangers. The hosts provide an aperitif and conversation. Throughout the night, participants move from salon to salon in a spirit of discovery and spontaneity. Then around 9:30 PM, something magical happens: all participants and hosts gather at a secret venue to celebrate together and share stories of their evening.
Friday, February 27, 2026 — Here's How It Works
**For Salon Hosts (Opening Your Home):**
- Open your home at 7 PM with a welcoming aperitif for guests
- Host a small group of 3–10 people for intimate conversation and connection
- At 9:30 PM, reveal the secret location of the grand gathering place
- Lead your guests there to join the full celebration
**For Guests (Visiting Salons):**
- Meeting Point: Place Georges-Python (the music kiosk), Fribourg
- Time: Between 6 PM and 8:30 PM, Friday, February 27, 2026
- Pick a card to discover which salon to visit—an element of surprise!
- Enjoy an aperitif and meet your hosts and other guests
- Head to the secret venue around 9:30 PM for the community celebration
