Friend Vibes Only: A Black Women’s Meetup

About the Group
Finding new and meaningful connections as an adult can be tough. Friend Vibes Only was created by Alexis Briggs and Valencia Ortiz as a community space for Black women in the DMV (ages 25–45) to meet, make friends, and build community outside of work and home.

In a convo with one of our members, we talked about how Meetup used to have more spaces for Black women pre-pandemic—but many of those have faded. On top of that, so many DMV spaces for Black women are tied to career networking or professional advancement. We wanted to create something different: a space where Black women could just be, without pressure, titles, or expectations.

This group celebrates the richness and diversity of Black womanhood, welcoming people from all walks of life, backgrounds, and experiences. We're here for friendship, fun, and real connection—nothing performative, nothing transactional.

About the Events
After a year of coordinating events, we have found that virtual meetings are most accessible for our members. Expect 1–2 events a month including a regular virtual meetup. As two volunteers running this group, we deeply appreciate your mindfulness around RSVPing. Please RSVP intentionally, and if your plans change, update us so we can plan with care and respect everyone’s time and energy.

Community Note
To keep this space active and intentional, we periodically remove members who haven’t attended an event within a 3-month window. No hard feelings—it just helps us keep the energy grounded and focused. If you’re removed, you’re always welcome to rejoin when the timing feels right.
