About us

Dear neurodivergent humans! Are you looking for new international connections, authentic chats and a safer space to talk about neurodivergent experiences? You’re in the right place.

The Friends of Neurodiversity meetup takes place every second Wednesday, in English, across age groups from 18+, around Vienna. You’re also super welcome to join if you’re asking yourself What if I’m neurodivergent??; no formal diagnosis is necessary. PLEASE READ ON to see if this is for you →

What's most important, if you're new here? We've been running these meetups (first founded in summer 2023, by Mario) to fill the gap on supporting spaces that are: easily accessible — which includes avoiding months-long wait lists, peer- and youth-led, open to the whole neurodivergent spectrum, English-speaking, taking neurodivergent needs like sensory sensitivities into account, and offering an in-person community focused on internationals and welcoming those who cannot join German-speaking events or express themselves better in English ✅ 🤝

Till further notice, all meetups will be taking place in the cozy space of the NGO MUT (Mensch.Umwelt.Tier), right at Kettenbrückengasse U4. Read the event descriptions for an intro into our friendly 'living room' and how to get there. Occasionally, social events may take place elsewhere.

Please note that spots per event are limited and we rely on you to register in advance AND cancel your participation on time (till 24h before, unless there's an emergency) so the spot can go to someone else. We’re no closed support group but a place to land and exchange and support each other; new participants can join every time. In case of questions our best contact option is email — see below.

**We use an inclusive definition of neurodiversity and neurodivergence, with neurodivergence referring to a neurodevelopmental difference rather than a disorder. We perceive reality differently :)

Please read the event description for more info before signing up ✔️

Meetup (this app) is free for you; you do NOT need a pro version. How to use it, besides signing up: We may post comments with updates, send occasional mails and — most importantly — may reach out to you via message, so please note that Meetup has a messaging function! (We may need to take measures if someone is a no-show repeatedly or keeps canceling their participation last minute, especially if it prevents others from participating)

🔗 Overview — for you and your friends 🔗
Did you know that Friends of Neurodiversity has a website? Help us spread the word: https://friendsofneurodiversity.carrd.co/

🤝 Your contribution 🤝
Thanks to a successful crowdfunding, the costs of this platform have been covered till November / December 2026! However, a proper physical infrastructure isn't free either. We’ll keep valuing and supporting our friendly ‘living room’ along with its societal impact — which includes redistributing food and clothes and toiletries and school supplies, providing emergency housing, breaking the taboo around poverty and homelessness. Hence, we’ll require a donation of 2-3€ per event, as before, now preferably in cash on site. You’re always very much invited to give more if you can and are feeling generous, since any donation is appreciated — and very much needed! When cash isn’t an option, please use the mentioned Revolut link after the event, adding the note “Verein MUT”. If it’s impossible for you to contribute then it’s ok, please just join us; we won't be monitoring any entries. Our focus remains on nourishing a thriving community in respect for everyone else building a better world ;)

We also have a WhatsApp Community consisting of several groups for neurodivergent recommendations, leisure activities, discussions on specific topics etc. You need to join at least one meetup to gain access. It is OPTIONAL :) The common language remains English. We encourage you to build meaningful connections beyond the meet-ups, whether you do so through our infrastructure or elsewhere.

Info for the German speakers / Für Deutschsprachige: Friends of Neurodiversity ist eine internationale Community in Wien.

Disclaimer: Friends of Neurodiversity is run by peers with lived experience, not trained mental health professionals. As organizers, we do not share professional advice and are not responsible for decisions participants make based on the meetup's discussions. Our events are no substitute for therapy, counselling or coaching. Instead, we provide a conversational space, and — on most dates — the gentle facilitation of a host who trained and was certified as a trauma-informed coach (in the first program accredited by the International Coaching Federation on the topic). Hence, we encourage participants to seek qualified support when the latter may be needed to address further topics or accompany them in the process of neurodivergent self-discovery.

Participation in this support group is voluntary and at your own risk.
By joining, you agree to take care of your own well-being, needs and belongings.

All clear? See you around :))
