Volunteer Training Series- Avenza Map App- Intermediate
Details
Returning for 2026 is the Volunteer Training Series - Avenza Map.
Due to the demand for this event. We are posting weekday evening and weekend morning sessions. (Check for those sessions)
There are numerous digital mapping apps available on the market. Did you know that Pocahontas State Park uses Avenza Map? The Virginia State Parks produces GeoPDF maps of all its parks. Users can download Avenza to view those maps for free.
But Avenza can be used for more than just finding your way on a map. It can be used to communicate your location, report trail hazards, and can be used for field data collection for citizen science projects.
In this series, we are going to offer short courses at the basic, intermated, advanced levels. For those Volunteers interested in becoming a course instructor. There will be the opportunity for a Capstone Train-the-Trainer Course.
The Second course to be offered is the Intermediate. This course will cover both iOS and Android users and will cover the following.
- Find by Coordinates
- Navigate, project location, and track
- Draw and Measure
- Recording a GPS Track
- Creating geofences
- Plotting a route
- Adding Geotagged Photos
- And Much More!
Participants must bring their own device (BYOD). You must have attended a Avenza Basic before you can take this session. Meet at the Visitor Center.
