## Trail Tool Workshop
Do you know what a Pulaski is used for? How about a McLeod? Trail maintenance at Pocahontas State Park relies on a variety of specialized hand tools and knowing how to use them correctly makes the work safer, more efficient, and more enjoyable.
This Trail Tool Workshop provides hands-on instruction in the trail and hand tools commonly used to build and maintain park trails. Participants will learn the purpose of each tool, proper handling techniques, and best practices for working safely on the trail.
### Workshop Topics Include:
- Tool Identification & Uses
Learn when and why specific tools—such as Pulaski's, McLeod's, loppers, and rakes—are used in trail maintenance. - Safe Use
Proper body positioning, tool spacing, situational awareness, and hazard prevention. - Care & Maintenance
Cleaning, sharpening, storage, and basic upkeep to extend tool life and ensure safe operation.
This workshop is ideal for new volunteers, returning crew members, and anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of trail work tools.
The training will be held in our 1936-era woodshop, heated by a wood stove that adds warmth, character, and a touch of history to the experience.
