Homesite and Cemetery Hike - Stone Mountain State Park

Details

Join us with local historian, Jason Duncan, for an off-trail hike to explore the area where Richard Sidden lived along Garden Creek. He was born in 1828, served in the Civil War, and was married twice. He even spent time in the Wilkes County jail on at least two occasions! He was a true mountain man who lived most of his adult life at Stone Mountain. We’ll hike to his homesite, visit his family cemetery, and check out other interesting landmarks along the way. This will be a challenging, strenuous, two-hour hike that is almost entirely off-trail, potentially with creek crossings.

Please meet at the Garden Creek Church for this hike (GPS 36.388879, -81.069318).
