Sunrise Solitude & Early Morning Wildlife (Sit-Spots)
5:30am-7:15am
MEET DAVE SELF - ACR RESOURCE ECOLOGIST - AT THE JUNCTION OF PINE FLAT ROAD & RED WINERY ROAD, 3/4 mile 'east' on Pine Flat Rd from Hwy 128 at Jimtown.
We'll drive up to the Preserve, with each person claiming an individual sit-spot. We'll each settle in to appreciate the summer sunrise - in solitude, while listening and watching for birds and other early morning wildlife. When we get back together, we'll share observations. A dawn coyote chorus is not uncommon, jays and acorn woodpeckers will probably make themselves heard, and who knows what else might wander by (bobcats, bears or mountain lions, oh my!?). Bring extra water, binoculars, a cushion? - and be prepared, with layers, for the early morning chill.
(Note: we'll do this mid August into late September too, and again in spring for the dawn chorus)
