Did you see recently in your social media feed, reports that 1 in 3 people in Australia are so lonely that they believe they don’t matter at all?

You would probably think it is people over 65 that feel lonely. Not so. Would it surprise you to know that people over 65 were the least lonely? The highest rates of loneliness were among those aged 18-24.

Loneliness is like being hungry when everyone around you is feasting. A painful yearning for connection. It can feel shameful and alarming. Sadly, people who are lonely often try to keep the fact a secret, fearing it will make them appear weird, or needy.

Loneliness can affect people in the midst of busy lives and people within families, who for some reason feel misunderstood, unloved, unheard and unseen. We will, at some stage in our lives, all experience loneliness.

PLAY Boardgames was borne from the isolation and loneliness created by COVID. But it is still relevant today, promoting community connection.

So, please come and feel the warmth of community whilst playing a boardgame every Saturday 7pm at either of our venues.

Tea, coffee and boardgames will be supplied. Please feel free to bring along a plate of refreshments, your own boardgames and a gold coin donation.

PLAY Boardgames is a community building activity so your support is greatly appreciated.

Young or old, alone or with a group, your host Janette will welcome you and help connect you into a game. You are welcome to bring a game of your own along, or there are MANY to choose from. If you don't know the games, someone will help you learn the rules.

Popular games played recently include: Azul, Rummikub, Bananagrams, Scattergories, Ticket to Ride Europe, Connect 4, Blokus, Bohnanza, Scrabble...

Please note, I don't run this event, Janette does, and it is open to the general public plus the Meetup group. It meets each week.

PLEASE NOTE: The Bulimba venue has stairs and has no ramp or lift.

The Sunnybank Venue is ground floor only, and is therefore quite accessible. The disabled parking is on the grass right behind the entrance, so may not suit wheelchairs but ok for more mobile persons.

Join us for a walk around the Kangaroo Point - Green Bridge loop. We'll meet outside Joey's Cafe. We walk across the top of the Kangaroo Point cliffs, along the Southbank waterfront, across the Neville Bonner Bridge through old city Botanical Gardens, about 5 city blocks, then back over the new Kangaroo Point Green Bridge, along Main Street to The Pineapple Hotel.
The Walk is about 7kms and takes about 80 to 90 minutes.
Meet at 5:55pm (or earlier) for 6:00pm Start.
Walk at your own pace as we stop at a number of catch up points along the way so you won't get left behind. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome, but the dinner venue is not.
Relax... Even if it your first time, we aim to make all feel welcome and it's a good idea to turn up a little early.
Optionally... After the walk, we stop at the Pineapple Hotel for dinner and / or a drink, a great way to socialise in a group setting. The conversation is more dynamic in the group setting, so if your a bit shy you can enjoy being a listener, if there's a topic your passionate about, you can jump right in on it.

There is free parking from 5pm near Joey's Cafe, the Pineapple Hotel and the streets between.
Plan on arriving a little early (10-15 minutes) we can have a chat and you have a buffer if traffic is poor. We do leave on time and once started I don't get a chance to check for messages as it is unsafe do while walking.
If there is mild rain I'll do the walk, but, if it is pouring down or well set in, I'll just do dinner.
Remember we are all adults so... I thank you as my guests that you bring your manners and be respectful!

Join me for a fun walk along the picturesque Wynnum-Manly waterfront, with the moon and lights shining over the bay and always great laughs.

We will meet at the bottom Cambridge Parade, Manly where it meets the Royal Esplanade. I will be waiting on the pathway opposite the Sea Vibes cafe.

The walk will follow the path north with turnaround point being the Wynnum Creek. Slow, Fast, no one wins the race as long as everyone finishes and enjoys themselves.

This walk is approx 6km round trip, but you really don't notice it for the chats along the way.

Get the blood flowing and mind relaxed after a hard day of work whatever it is you do to unwind.

Dogs on leads welcome

Unlike my other events, a meal or drink afterwards is not intended but welcomed if interested.

Join us for dinner then trivia at Souths Sports Club - Acacia Ridge.

Newbies welcome just look for the host, you will be welcomed.

The game starts at 6.30pm / 7pm and it is free to play. We meet a bit earlier so that we can have a chat and dinner at around 6pm. We usually have 2 tables/teams from our group playing each week. Please RSVP, to help us plan, and change the RSVP if you can't make it.

The venue is very spacious and about 12 other teams play besides the meet up tables. It is great because it is not too noisy. WHERE- Just follow the road around from Mortimer Road and park in the 'MEMBER'S CAR PARK' or on the grass area. There is usually heaps of cars (people play sport on the fields) but you will always get a spot. Please be aware that there is a 'soccer club' a little down the road.....we are at the 'Sports Club' - the sign on the building is easy to see.
