DCR’s Annual Park Serve Day, Saturday April 29, 2017 in Myles Standish.

11th Annual Park Serve Day Volunteer at a Massachusetts Park Near You!

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and the Friends Of Myles Standish State Forest invites you to attend DCR’s Annual Park Serve Day, Saturday April 29, 2017 at Myles Standish State Forest.

With the help of volunteers, DCR will spruce up our park's facilities, clean beaches, clean and maintain trails, plant flowers, and more!

These valuable resources belong to all of us, and we can all take pride in them.

Since Park Serve Day began in 2006, tens of thousands of Massachusetts residents have helped to prepare Massachusetts state parks and beaches for the summer recreation season.

At the conclusion, fire weather permitting (it has been very dry), the Friends will provide a free hamburger and hot dog cookout for all participants.

Last year, About 50 of us got together on a beautiful day including boy scouts (Troop 59) who pulled out invasive trees around Barrett Pond and a group from the Department of Youth Services who planted shrubs around the headquarters. We also marked most of the Pine Barrens Trail with blue blazes and a ton of mulch was put down around the east entrance's native plants. We finished up with a great cookout at the amphitheater.

In 2015, we worked on clearing growth along the Bentley Loop, painted a bunch of picnic tables and planted flowers around the headquarters.

Three years ago, we cut back and cleared growth along the Friend's Trail and spruced up and planted flowers around the headquarters.

Four years ago we re-marked the Bentley Loop Trail and worked at the Equestrian Campgrounds.

Since Park Serve Day began in 2006, tens of thousands of Massachusetts residents have helped to prepare Massachusetts state parks and beaches for the summer recreation season.

In 2015, DCR hosted 4,085 people in 43 parks state wide to help clean beaches, pick up litter, paint buildings, plant flowers, clear trails and much more. They removed and estimated 93 tons of trash and debris from our parklands and beaches, planted 2,830 flowers, 10 trees, and 15 shrubs.

In 2014, DCR hosted over 4,200 volunteers at state parks and beaches across the Commonwealth for Park Serve Day. Volunteers removed 36.5 tons of trash and debris, painted buildings, planted flowers and cleared trails to help prepare for the summer recreation season.

Please plan to come out and join in on April 29th .
