Off the Beaten Path- Pinnacle Hill

Details
Pinnacle Hill- which may well be the highest point within Myles Standish- stands well hidden from the road. It offers a climb that will get your heart racing and several views of Great South Pond that will inspire you.
Once we make it, we can continue on to the beaches on Great South Pond, crossing the road to return via Kings Pond Plain Road.

The hill is not marked on the new park map but is within the little square that says "MSSF" along Rocky Pond Road. One of the old USGS topographic maps makes it clearer:

The contour markings on the map put the high point at about 220 feet, rising from the street elevation of 153 feet and the pond shore at 100 feet. The view from the top of Pinnacle Hill into Great South Pond is impressive. It's not Everest, but it's a good climb.
Hike starts at 9. Meet first (optional) at Panera Bread off Long Pond Road in Plymouth at 8am for breakfast or just a cup of coffee. (If you meet us, you can follow us to the hike parking. We generally leave by 8:40.)
A trail has has reportedly been cut through the Wildlands Trust property, along Great South Pond to the peak of Pinnacle Hill. However, long pants are advised. This hike may still involve minor bushwhacking. Sunscreen and bug spray are also recommended.
Our hikes generally go about two hours. Please bring water and wear good shoes for hiking.
The Friends of Myles Standish State Forest is offering this hike. Find out more about the Friends on our website. http://www.friendsmssf.com
