Habitat Restoration at Illinois Beach State Park

We will meet at the Illinois Beach Nature Center parking lot a few minutes before 9am. We will focus on collecting seeds of native plants that we will eventually clean and disperse in areas that need them. Bring water and a snack to share if you'd like. All work tools provided. Everyone is invited to come, learn, lead, eat and make a difference.

Old Plank Road Prairie Eco-Restoration Kickoff!

Let's join together to launch a new era of stewardship for this important site! As an introduction to the work, we'll collect prairie seeds and cut invasive brush. Then we'll share snacks, celebrate our good work together, and begin organizing the grassroots effort to keep the momentum going.
All are welcome - no prior experience necessary. Restoration communities need all kinds of people with all kinds of interests. Let's get together!

Park on the north side of Miller Circle Drive in Matteson, adjacent to the reservoir and Miller Gardens Park. Look for the parking signs.What to wear:
Natural fiber clothes (like cotton, wool, or linen) and close-toed shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Work gloves can be provided, but if you have your own that you like to wear, please bring them!What to bring:
Yourself! And anyone you know who might be inspired. If you would like to collect prairie seeds and you have paper bags (grocery bags or lunch bags), please feel free to bring them. If you don't, no worries -- these will be provided. All other tools will be provided as well.2 attendees
Help Restore Life to Sandytown Cemetery Prairie
Shady Town Cemetery, 12524 Springhill Rd, Prophetstown, IL 61277, USA, Prophetstown, IL, USFew people today have glimpsed true Illinois: the unbroken land that first met the eyes of European settlers 150 years ago. But stand in a cemetery prairie and you might find yourself experiencing a portal through time.
In cooperation with many agencies, Friends of Illinois Nature Preserves have readied tools, plans, and authorizations to do the “eco first aid” that will save these areas from loss by neglect. Friends are launching a month-long marathon of cemetery prairie eco-restoration workdays across the northern half of the state to care for these irreplaceable sites.
Calling all nature lovers, action-takers, people who like to work together to make change: all are invited to join in to gather rare seeds to improve degraded parts of the prairie.
