April Butler Seniors Shoot

Details
April last time was chased at gun point on the way to the shoot, so this time we'll have a body guard to make sure she gets to the shoot ;)

For a seniors shoot, we'll be working on practicing posing the model, since most seniors will have no idea how to pose and will often feel uncomfortable in front of a camera. The best way to get good and posing someone, is to research pictures on the internet and look at other model's/photographer's shots that you like and replicate them. Then once you get enough experience with that, you can break out into your own creative ideas. I suggest copying a lot of photos on your iphone/cell and then if you get lost, open up the pictures and pick one for the person to do. If you aren't good at explaining, you can always just show them a picture on your phone what you want them to do.
Try going to google images and typing "senior photography" for some great ideas. If anyone has a cool chair or something, these kind of props can be really effective in diversifying the shots:

You'll want to avoid unflattering shots by getting to close to the person with your lens, however zooming with a telephoto lens from afar is ok, and you'll generally want to use a 50mm 1.8f/1.4f lens (cropped sensors cameras, which most people's) or a 70-200mm telephoto lens which gives great bokeh and flattens the person out.
For lighting, we'll want to use something REALLY subtle, just enough to fill and pop them from the background, without giving any flashed looks or obvious artificial light, since it won't be a fashion style shoot. We'll have a lighting setup to use, but feel free to bring any Speedlights of your own to use while others are shooting.
We will be doing this shoot outside at one of my favorite spots, the Richardson Waterfall off West Prairie Creek. Travis Johnston will be running this meetup to give me a break and help out. I've made Travis and Brent Henman Asst. Organizers to start handling more shoots, so that we can have more shoots to choose from, and more variety and styles.
Here is a picture of the waterfall, which also has some cool trees and grass around the park too:

Hope you can make it!
