Topic: Connecting Feelings and Needs: The Missing Link in Communication

Note: This session is inspired by the book Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life. If you have time, please read through Chapter 4, Identifying and Expressing Feelings, and Chapter 5, Taking Responsibility for Our Feelings. If not, you can watch the following videos to get an overview, or spend a few minutes googling the concepts of “feelings” and “needs” in NVC. This will really facilitate the discussion.

If you don’t have time to read or watch anything about this topic, that’s completely fine. However, our discussion will then be based on your own definitions of “feelings” and “needs,” rather than the concepts defined in NVC. Thank you for taking the time to read this!

How to Express Needs | Nonviolent Communication explained by Marshall Rosenberg

Hi everyone,

First of all, I’d like to express my heartfelt thanks for your input and let you know that you’ve truly made an impact—on me and others!

What to Expect for Newcomers
As more new members join our group, I’d like to introduce a bit more structure to help our conversations flow smoothly. Starting this year, we will focus on one main topic per session with plenty of discussion time. This format is open to change and feedback. Please read through the support group rules before joining any event. You can find the information on the Discussions page.

If you’re new, please feel free to simply observe and share only when you feel comfortable. My goal is to make sure everyone has a chance to be heard — while ensuring that first-time participants don’t feel any pressure to speak before they’re ready.

For returning members, we’ll continue building on our past conversations in a more open and free-flowing way.

People with multi-cultural backgrounds or expat experiences are especially welcome, as this is a core theme I’m currently exploring. I’m also particularly drawn to conversations around family, marriage, friendship, meaning, purpose, and belonging—but all themes are welcome.

The sessions will be held in English. This group is about bringing like-minded people together to support one another.

Please be respectful and take turns speaking—we want to create a space where everyone feels heard, safe, and supported.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, come join us and get inspired!

🌿 Gentle reminder: This is not a language exchange group.
Members with limited English ability are absolutely welcome to join and participate; however, you’ll gain the most from our discussions if you can express your thoughts fairly comfortably in English.

💛 If you know you won’t be able to make it, please kindly remove yourself from the list.

Thank you!
Amy
