This month we'll be welcoming:
Jack Carey - Back to the Standards: An adventure in web components
Marty McFly travelled to the future in a plutonium-powered DeLorean time machine... but what was really happening when he went to 2015? Forty years after the release of his first movie, we’ll explore an alternative timeline in web development to discover what could’ve been and what could still be for front end development. We’ll dive into the Custom Elements API to define new HTML tags, enhance existing ones, and manage state across independent elements. All to answer the question: what could happen if we take the web back to the ~~future~~ standards?
---
Andy Carter - Ulysses versus The Very Hungry Caterpillar
As developers, we spend a significant proportion of our time reading code. The quality of that code can really impact how easily we understand and follow what it does. Poor code can be costly!
Taking two literary classics we will explore the challenges of complex code from the reader’s perspective. We will also look at the benefits simple code can bring.
With people increasingly utilising AI as part of their developer-toolkit, it’s important we examine the quality of our work. We need to embrace our creativity and write code that tell’s a simple and eloquent story.

Post-meetup social
After the talks we'll head to socialise at the nearby Triple Point Brewery + Bar. They serve a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, plus food from Twisted Burger Co. See https://triplepointbrewing.co.uk/ for more details. One of our volunteers will show you the way.
