In this one hour workshop I will be introducing you to screen readers, assistive technology that visually impaired and other disabled people use to read out content and information on the screen.
We will cover basic navigation, keyboard shortcuts and expected behaviour when browsing the web. We will also do an exercise around common mistakes in web forms and how to fix them for screen reader users.
You will need:
- Headphones π§
- Laptop running either Mac OS or Windows.
- If you are using Windows please download NVDA (itβs free) beforehand.
- If you are using a Mac you do not need to download anything.
- If you are a linux user, I would suggest emulating or dualbooting Windows with NVDA installed and see if that works before the session.
