Talk 1: The State of PWAs
Danny will talk about the current state of PWAs in relation to (new) features, browser and platform support.
About Danny
I am a freelance web developer and PWA specialist from Amsterdam. I'm also the creator of What PWA Can Do Today which is a showcase of demos of what is possible with PWAs. I also publish Modern Web Weekly, a weekly update on new features of the modern web platform, tested and explained in plain English.
Talk 2: A11y and algorithms: getting technical to make your sites more human
Detecting accessibility issues automatically makes them easier to find and fix, but some things that are easy for humans are tough for computers. Human quickly see if a part of a text is repeated and how much, but computers aren't great at 'seeing' multiple parts of a text string all at once.
In this presentation we explain why this happens and how it affects screen reader users. Then, we'll come up with a plan to detect repetition automatically. We'll walk through building a JavaScript algorithm that can spot and measure text repetition. We'll tackle each step together, refining the algorithm as new challenges pop up. Along the way, you'll get a better insight into how users perceive your website and how getting a little technical can make your pages a bit more human.
