Equality in a Time of Transition: the Landscape of Gay and Lesbian Rights in the Early 2000s

In recent years, the debate over same-sex marriage has taken center stage in discussions of gay and lesbian politics in Hong Kong. In this talk, Professor Marco Wan brings us back to the late 1990s and early 2000s to explore the legal developments that set the terms of that debate. He revisits the key court cases from the period to ask what it might mean for gays, lesbians, and queers to step into visibility in a time of social, political, and cultural change.
