Hike: Abandoned Missile Site (Chatsworth)

Halloween costumes are encouraged

Alright meetup people, if you’re into exploring abandoned buildings and spooky underground bunkers then this hike is for you. There is an abandoned missile site left from the Cold War era just north of Chatsworth. This is a free event to attend, and since it’s a week before Halloween I encourage you to bring your costumes. Please bring a costume where you can still hike up a small incline road. Here is a link to a YouTube video about the missile site, so you can get a sense of what to expect. So join me because I promise you this will be more exciting than searching for ghosts in a haunted house.

Goal #1: Find each other at the In-n-Out Parking Lot
Goal #2: Drive over to the missile site
Goal #3: Explore the first abandoned buildings we come across
Goal #4: Find the opening to the underground bunker, and go down into the dark chamber of secrets.

Distance: about 1 mile
Elevation gain: not much
Route type: out & back
Dogs are allowed but on a leash

Driving to the event:
-Type in “In-n-Out Burger 19901 Rinaldi Street, Porter Ranch, Ca 91326”
-Choose your path wisely
-We will first meet here and then drive over to the Missile site.
-Last chance for restrooms here. No restrooms at the Missile site
-Also not much cell phone service at the Missile site.

What to bring:
-A positive attitude (not optional)
-A good flashlight if you want to explore the underground bunker. (Your phone’s flashlight won’t do any good. Trust me it’s that dark.)
-Face mask (If you want to explore the underground bunker.)
-$5 cash to park in the parking lot (optional - not mandatory)
-Halloween costume (optional)
-Shoes with good grip
-Plenty of water
-Lunch: sandwich, chips, almonds, etc.
