The highly anticipated annual event, “Rakugo and Shamisen Performance,” is happening again this year!

Rakugo and Shamisen Performance in traditional temple

You will have the rare opportunity to enter a normally inaccessible room inside the temple and enjoy the beauty of Japanese culture and atmosphere.

Rakugo and shamisen are traditional performing arts that symbolize Japanese culture.

Rakugo is a storytelling art performed by a single storyteller (rakugoka) seated on a cushion. Through gestures and changes in vocal tone, the performer brings characters to life, weaving humor and emotion into captivating narratives.

Shamisen is a traditional Japanese string instrument with three strings, played using a plectrum (bachi). It’s featured in various settings like kabuki theater and festivals, enchanting audiences with its beautiful tones and melodies.

Both art forms allow you to experience the depth of Japanese culture, offering a unique opportunity to enjoy Japan’s history and daily life through words and music.

This event promises plenty of laughter from rakugo and mesmerizing shamisen performances that will leave you spellbound!

I will also perform Japanese taiko drumming as part of the program! Additionally, as a special guest, you can enjoy Hakata Niwaka, a unique traditional comedy from Fukuoka.

This is a local event, not aimed at tourists or foreign visitors. It’s a rare chance to experience real Japanese life and culture while connecting with locals. Since it only happens once a year, don’t miss out!

Don’t worry if you don’t speak Japanese.
Feel free to message me beforehand, and I’ll guide you in English.
