Sneak out early and catch a mellow night ride on the Bay Trail this Tuesday March 3.
We’ll roll out at 5:30 pm, which is about 30 minutes before the 6:05 pm sunset in San Carlos, so we can catch the last light, watch the sky change, and ease into night riding together.
Run whatcha' brung: this is road, e-bike, gravel and hybrid friendly (I'll have a road bike).

## Ride plan

  • Meet time: Ready to roll at 5:30pm sharp
  • Start/finish: Izzy's Steakhouse (closed, but parking open).
  • Route: Out-and-back on the Bay Trail 10 miles with virtually no elevation change
  • Pace: Casual and chatty (11-13 mph); this is a fun ride, not a workout.
  • Estimated ride time: About 75–90 minutes including quick photo and regroup stops.

## Route points of interest

  • Bayfront views: Long, open views over San Francisco Bay, mudflats, and bird habitat, especially nice as the sky transitions from sunset to twilight under a bright moon.
  • Wildlife: Expect shorebirds, egrets, and possibly harbor seals along the water’s edge in the marshier sections.
  • Bridges and causeways: Low‑traffic causeways and bridges over sloughs and channels make for nice visual cues and photo spots once the lights and moon are up.

## Bathroom and water options

  • Bayfront / shoreline parks: Many Bay Trail access points near San Carlos and Foster City connect through city shoreline parks that typically have restrooms and water (e.g., marina/shoreline park facilities).
  • Trailheads and parking areas: Major Bay Trail parking lots usually have at least a porta‑potty or basic restroom, plus trash cans and sometimes water.
  • Nearby commercial strips: If your start/finish is close to town, keep a nearby gas station or café in mind for a backup indoor bathroom stop before or after the ride.

## Lights and safety gear

Because this is a night ride on a mixed-use path, proper lights and safety gear are a must. Please bring:

  • Two front headlights (one can be your main beam, the other as a backup or on a lower setting).
  • One medium-intensity tail light (bright enough to be seen, not so blinding that it nukes your buddies’ retinas).
  • A helmet (non-negotiable), plus any reflective bits you like: reflective vest, ankle bands, or reflective accents on your bike.

Also recommended: full-finger gloves, a light wind layer, and anything you need to stay comfortable and warm by the bay in the evening.

## Post-ride hang

We’ll wrap up the ride and then roll over to Molly-O's @ San Carlos for post-ride libations, snacks, and general debriefing. The Irish pub is open nights and has a relaxed, lively vibe with craft beer, small fare, and dinner portions—perfect for swapping stories and warming up after riding in the ocean air.
If you’re in, hit “going,” charge your lights, and get ready for a chill night spin by the bay.
