Companion Care/Body Doubling Power Hour Session!

Details

Oftentimes as autistics and AuDHDers (especially AuDHDers!) we have challenges of prioritizing our tasks, focusing, and task completion, all of which are part of executive functioning challenges. Body doubling is an accountability measure to help with not only completing a task(s), but also to accomplish a set intention or priority. This one hour power session is an accelerated version of the body doubling session Katie Oswald, the founder of Full Spectrum Agency for Autistic Adults does each month.

This one hour session is ran somewhat like Katie's session, but in half the time and with a greater need to focus on the task at hand due to limited time. But don't worry, completing task(s) is not the main emphasis for this session. It is making an effort toward fulfillment of your set intention for the session (did you make a good faith effort toward doing what you said you would?) and motivating yourself for the rest of the day or afternoon. If you did not make a good effort toward your set intention, how can you help alleviate distractions to make a more successful body doubling session next time? If you need to focus your attention, let's use the pack mentality to help give us an incredibly productive hour.

Here's the agenda of how this power hour body doubling session is ran!

1. Open the session at the top of the hour.

2. Get started 2 minutes after the start of the hour.

3. Go around the Zoom room in a round robin format to briefly introduce ourselves and our set intention and tasks for the session. The more specific the intention, the easier it is to utilize your session to the maximum and the easier it is to redirect your attention to the task at hand.

4. Get started with the session around 5-8 minutes into the session.

5. Work on our tasks and intention during two halves of the session with a 2-minute break once we hit the bottom of the hour to check in with ourselves and our bodies to make sure we are motivated, set, and energized for the remainder of the session. If you need to change your intention or task for the remainder of body doubling, that's okay but make sure to do it with intention to finish the session strong!

6. Continue with the second half of the session and finish by about 5 minutes before the top of the next hour and do a quick 3-minute recap with how we all did to stick to our intention and/or tasks during session and how we may improve for next time if needed (in a round robin format).

7. Conclusion and close the session.

*The objective is to not get everything done in the session like I stated above, it is to stick to our stated intention from the start of the session and to work on not allowing our minds and/or bodies to wander or stray from our intention during the session.

Intention setting will happen right away (which is a powerful part of this whole thing), so feel free to sign in a few minutes early. If you arrive after we have set intentions and everyone is working, you may not be able to set intentions out loud, but please put them in the comments and jump right into work. I will do my best to let you back in if you do get disconnected mid-session for any reason.

Happy focusing!
