Accessibility Erosion
Well-structured HTML is accessible by default, but it's easy to lose track of this when pursuing designs and functionality. I'll walk through some simple - but often unknown - tips to keep your systems as accessible as possible.

Bio: Ben Evans leads the front-end team for Axis12, a digital agency based in London, UK. Passionate about accessibility, and CSS, you'll find him working across all timezones squashing IE11 bugs and rogue ARIA attributes, creating beautiful and accessible digital experiences. His experience as a frontend developer and project manager resulted in a portfolio of development across several industries, including the arts, healthcare, government, and educational sectors.

The Story Behind Filters (or, How to get paid to build open-source software without giving up your weekends!)
Abstract: Near the end of 2016, I released a few open-source projects: ClassRegistry, DataProviders, Filters, and Triggers. They were heaps of fun to develop, release, and maintain; the experience helped me to learn about many new techniques and domains; and over the years I even got to meet a few of the devs who used them ❤️ These are the reasons why I love to work on open-source projects, but there was another surprising aspect: I got paid to build them... by my employer! With the release of Filters v3.3.0 this month, I'm keen to demo some of the features of this library for creating data validation schemas and pipelines, as well as show the journey I went on to get paid by my employer to work on open-source software... and how you can, too!

Bio: Kia ora! Ko Phoenix āhau! I am a software engineer with just shy of two decades of experience in dev and architecture. Throughout my career, I have worked with companies of various sizes in different parts of the world — and I am proud to call Aotearoa, New Zealand my haukāinga. For the past 6 years, I have been actively mentoring software developers of all skill levels, coaching teams at numerous companies, and volunteering time each week to work with students at Dev Academy Aotearoa. My mission is to help close our skills gap in digital tech in a sustainable manner, by helping employers to boost their capacity to hire and mentor junior developers.

We look forward to seeing you there!
