We had a great time at our first meetup in Brussels. Let's do it again! For our second meetup we will be returning to BeCode. This time our own Freek Van der Herten will talk about how to get started with event sourcing in a Laravel app and Dieter Stinglhamber will talk about the state of the web in a post GDPR era.

We hope to see you soon,

Getting started with event sourcing in a Laravel app by Freek Van der Herten

In an event sourced app you're storing each event that happens within your app and derive all state from those events.

In this practical talk you'll get an intro on what event sourcing is and what the benefits are. After that we'll dive in the Laravel ecosystem and review two packages: laravel-event-projector and EventSauce.

Speaker: Freek Van der Herten is a developer and partner at Spatie. The Antwerp based company has an open source first mentality and has released many Laravel, PHP and JavaScript packages, which have been downloaded more than 25 million times. After hours Freek runs https://ohdear.app and co-organises the Full Stack Europe conference.

The state of the web in a post GDPR era by Dieter Stinglhamber

Ever visited a website that had a "We care about your privacy" blocking pop-up that asks you to consent giving up your data? Annoying right?! In this talk, we'll take a look at the post-GDPR internets. What is allowed, how to tell people about compliance without scaring them off and what you can do as a developer.

Speaker: Described as unique and unconventional by his peers, Dieter Stinglhamber is a 26 years old nerdy backend developer that can talk to databases and make servers do stuff. When he's not working or enjoying a good beer he likes to play board games, read books and watch Disney animated movies.
