September Event at Cheqroom

Details
Dear members,
Our summer break is over and we're ready to get back started! For our September event, we're very happy to be hosted by Cheqroom at the Eskimofabriek. They're also so kind to provide us with pizza (foodtruck in front of the venue) and drinks for the evening!
We have two talks for you this evening. Elian Van Cutsem will be speaking about Astro & Google Cloud and Geoffrey De Smet will talk about AI optimization problems.
We also want to remind you about our conference Full Stack Europe which is happening in October. Have a look at the speaker line-up and join us! https://fullstackeurope.com/2022
For this meetup, we'll be raffling a free ticket for one of the attendees! 🎟
And we also have a special discount for meetup members. Grab your ticket with a 15% discount here: https://bit.ly/fseu22fsbe
We hope to see you soon,
Dries, Rias & Freek
PS: Please remember to change your RSVP if you cannot attend.

TALKS
Between Cloud & Stars: Fun with Astro & Google Cloud by Elian Van Cutsem
In this talk we’ll go a a little deeper in exploring the atmosphere from back- to front-end. We’ll take a look at developing web applications without a backend, but using cloud native solutions (like Cloud Functions ect.), containerising your applications and deploying them using pipelines. Of course we also take a look at scalability & autoscaling.
Speaker: Elian is a Software Engineer at vBridge where he started a couple years ago as an intern. He has a strong focus on design, front-end development and cloud native web-applications with the emphasis on personalisation and technical innovation. He is part of a community where he supports many companies in their IT story, and through his work connecting people, via the cloud and in real life, Elian is always available for a chat or drink. When he’s not behind his computer, he’s behind the turntables to give the people an unforgettable night!

Solve vehicle routing, shift rostering and other AI optimization problems by Geoffrey De Smet
The Vehicle Routing Problem is notoriously difficult to solve. Send delivery vehicles to a set of locations and minimize the driving time. It’s NP-hard. That’s mathspeak for “it’s very hard to solve for non-trivial datasets”. Just like the Shift Rostering, Maintenance Scheduling, School Timetabling, Conference Scheduling and many other decision problems.
Greedy algorithms and brute force algorithms have their limitations. Join this session to learn how to solve these problems with sophisticated algorithms and OptaPlanner, the open source (Apache license) constraint solver for Java/Kotlin/Python. Use it to write scalable, maintainable and reproducible code.
Speaker: Geoffrey De Smet is the lead of OptaPlanner (www.optaplanner.org), the open source AI constraint solver for Java/Kotlin/Python that is used across the globe to automatically solve employee rostering, vehicle routing, task assignment, maintenance scheduling and other planning problems. He's an international speaker.
