TALKS
Fantastic functions and where to find them by Freek Van der Herten
Fantastic functions and where to find them PHP is a truly amazing language. You probably use PHP to create beautiful websites and services in an expressive way. But the language is capable of so much more than what you'll probably program in your day to day job.
In this entertaining talk, we'll take a look a couple of surprising ways to use PHP. You'll see lesser known functionality being used such as weak maps and process control functions. We'll also cover a couple amazing open source PHP projects that have borrowed inspiration from communities outside of PHP such as Tailwind and Phoenix.
After this talk you'll be even more convinced how truly flexible PHP. You'll also have learned a couple of functions and packages that you can use in your next project.
Speaker: Freek Van der Herten is a developer and partner at Spatie. You can find him on Twitter and read his blogposts on PHP and Laravel at freek.dev
Spatie has an open source first mentality and has released many Laravel, PHP and JavaScript packages. The company has created several digital products and video courses such as Testing Laravel, Laravel Beyond CRUD, Ray, Mailcoach, and Flare.
After hours Freek runs the Oh Dear, organises the official Laravel Worldwide meetup and the Full Stack Europe conference.

I can has() timeline UI? by Brecht De Ruyte
Let's go on a journey! CSS has been growing strong over the past years and will continue to do so in 2023. In this presentation I will show you some of the things that really get me hyped for this year.
We will be taking a bit of a deeper dive into the has() relational pseudo class, moving on to animating things based on scroll with scroll-timeline and finally ending with a short introduction on open-ui and the anchoring API.
In this fast-paced presentation packed with demos, I hope to expand your mind with the possibilities of these new features and encourage you to try them out for yourself eventhough most of them are still in an early-release or even experimental phase.
Speaker: Brecht De Ruyte is a self-taught front-end developer located in Belgium with a passion for UX and Design. After more than a decade of working in tech, he started writing down his findings about HTML, CSS, and JS with an eye on accessibility and UX. During the day, you can find him working at iO Ghent on various projects. There are a lot of environments he is working in, the majority of them being Twig and React. But Brecht’s real niche will always be semantics and CSS, especially now, with the ever-fast updates in browser support.
