Women's Wednesday Wilderness Wander, Ojai 20-miler (with option for less)

Women's Wednesday Wilderness Wander, Ojai 20-miler (with option for less)

Details

This hike is for women only.

If it's cool enough, is there really any other choice?! As usual, off we go to the wilderness north of Ojai, about a 45 minute drive from Ventura. Forecast is a high of 81 so we'll get all the climbing done before it gets warm.

We'll take a jaunt to Jameson Lake the Los Padres National Forest. It's the easiest 20-miler I've posted to date, since it's all fire road and one way in, one way out--can't get lost.

You have the option of going part-way and turning around, if you have a hiking buddy with you so you're not alone. So make a note if you prefer to do less miles. If there are at least 2 who want a shorter hike--go for it! http://photos3.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/7/c/c/5/event_47011941.jpeg

Jameson Lake from our 4/7/10 Vulture Peak (https://www.meetup.com/fun-in-the-sun-Oxnard/events/12973238/) Hike (https://www.meetup.com/fun-in-the-sun-Oxnard/events/12973238/).

Santa Barbara is just beyond those mountains.

Santa Cruz Island on the horizon.

Pace: This hike is especially for Dinah who is training for Mt. Whitney. We'll be going slower than my normal pace, so faster hikers are welcome to go ahead as a group.

Stats: Up to 20 miles/3,500', with option to do less.

Sunset: 7:47PM
Twilight: 8:13PM

Time & Place: 7:30AM at trailhead. Directions will be emailed to participants.
Level: Moderate to advanced--you pick how many miles you want, e.g. 10-20.

Bring: The ten essentials (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ten_Essentials) . Trekking poles a plus. Headlamp, food for all day, plenty water. I suggest 4 liters+.
Wear: Layers, hiking shoes/boots with lug soles. Shorts/short sleeves okay!

Trailblazing? No, these trails have been trodden before.

Exploratory? Yes, because I haven't been on part of the trail.

Bushwacking? No. It's all fire road.

Dogs: Leashed dogs okay, but I'm not sure about water sources on the trail. Bring water for them.
