INDIAN HOLI LUNCH

The Indian celebration of Holi may be the most fun of any holiday in any country. It is a Hindu festival that celebrates the arrival of:

  • SPRING
  • LOVE
  • NEW LIFE

What can be better to celebrate!

Holi is a vibrant, colorful jamboree that's also known as the "festival of colors". It's enjoyed with dancing, singing, and throwing colored powder and water on each other.

Holi usually occurs in March, based on the full moon in the Hindu lunar calendar's month of Phalguna. In 2025, Holi will be on Friday, March 14.

Holi celebrations include:

  • The triumph of good over evil
  • The legendary love between Radha and Krishna
  • The end of winter
  • The blossoming of love
  • A good spring harvest season

The fun tradition of Holi is for people to throw colored liquid or powder at each other. Other festivities include music, dancing, and food.

Holi is mainly celebrated in South Asia, but it's also recognized globally today. It originated in India, spread to other regions of Asia, and now to parts of the Western world. Once you learn about this fun holiday, you want to participate.

International Diners Club will celebrate the fun holiday of Holi two ways this year:

  • We will lunch at a fabulous Indian restaurant: Amul India, on March 15 at 1 PM. There will not be any powder to throw at this lunch
  • In April, the Northwest Branch of the Worthington Library will provide colored Holi powders again - for us to throw on each other. They did this last year, and it was fabulous fun. Since it’s outside, they wait until the weather is warmer in April to hold the Holi celebration. When the library decides on the date for their Holi party, I will post it as an extra April event for the club.

So our first Holi event will be at:

AMUL INDIA
5871 Sawmill Rd
Dublin, OH 43017
Saturday, March 15, 1:00 PM

BRING $2 TO PAY MEETUP. We need to collect $200 by September to continue this Meetup Club. Everyone who comes to lunch should bring $2 cash to pay toward next year’s Meetup Dues. If you don’t want to carry cash, you can Venmo $5 instead. (Venmo is more work to handle than cash, so you contribute more.)

OPTIONAL CRAFT EARRINGS During lunch, all members of International Diners will have an opportunity to make a pair of mother of pearl earrings using a dye-transfer image of Holi. From now on, at each lunch, we will have a chance to use this dye-transfer to make earrings that represent the international holiday.
Feb - Germany food - German Valentine
Mar - Indian food - “Happy Holi”
April - Butterfly kite of Qingming
(Chinese Memorial Day, pronounced “ching-ming”)

To start the earring, you must come to lunch 15 minutes early. Come at 12:45 if you want to make earrings.

HAPPY HOLI!
