Indian Holi Party

The Indian celebration of Holi may be the most fun of any holiday in any country. It is a Hindu festival that celebrates the arrival of:

  • SPRING
  • LOVE
  • NEW LIFE

What can be better to celebrate!

Holi is a vibrant, colorful jamboree that's also known as the "festival of colors". It's enjoyed with dancing, singing, and throwing colored powder and water on each other.

Holi usually occurs in March, based on the full moon in the Hindu lunar calendar. In 2025, Holi was actually on Friday, March 14.

Holi celebrations include:

  • The triumph of good over evil
  • The legendary love between Radha and Krishna
  • The end of winter
  • The blossoming of love
  • A good spring harvest season

The fun tradition of Holi is for people to throw colored liquid or powder at each other. Other festivities include music, dancing, and food.

Holi is mainly celebrated in South Asia, but it's also recognized globally today. It originated in India, spread to other regions of Asia, and now to parts of the Western world. Once you learn about this fun holiday, you want to participate.

Our Diners Club is celebrating the fun holiday of Holi two ways this year. On the actual Holi date, the club ate at an Indian restaurant.

On Saturday, April 12, the Northwest Branch of the Worthington Library will provide colored Holi powders - for us to throw on each other. They did this last year, and it was fabulous fun. Since it’s outside, they wait until the weather is warmer in April to hold the Holi celebration.

I will be in a wheelchair, wearing a bright yellow shirt that says “Happy HOLI”, with a colorful, splashy heart image. Meet me in front of the library.

So our second Holi event this year will be:

Saturday, April 12, 4:00

The Northwest Worthington Library
2280 Hard Road
Columbus 43235
(Worthington has 3 branches of the library. This event is at the library on Hard Road.)
