Berwick via Alfriston to sunny Seaford - hike & seaside

This walk takes us over the South Downs to the sea, visiting, Berwick, a traditional village of Alfriston with a lovely architecture and tea room, then carry on to Cuckmere Haven and finish with a coastal walk to Seaford.

WALK OVERVIEW
We will start at Berwick, then carry on to explore some beautiful hills of South Downs with panoramic views. The first is Windover Hill where we can see a chalk figure of the Long Man of Wilmington. After that we will carry on to a beautiful traditional English village of Alfriston. We will make a stop for lunch at the tea room there. Then we will ascent the second hill of the walk ‘High and Over’ with views above the Cuckmere Haven and the sea. We will then descent to Cuckmere Haven and enjoy the sea. We will finish the walk with a coastal path to Seaford.

WALK IN A NUTSHELL
Start: Meet at Clapham junction station - downstairs at the main ticket office, Costa coffee and lots of shops. We will meet at 8:45. The train goes 9.23. There is only one train an hour. We will take a train to Lewes, where we will change to Berwick. We will reach Berwick at 10.56. The cost of group saver return is approx £25-30.

Distance: 12 miles. We will allow 5 hours for walking depending on the speed of the group and excluding any breaks.

Return journey: Trains from Seaford depart twice an hour.

What to wear: Appropriate walking clothes and footwear - waterproof hiking boots as the path could be muddy in places. Sun scream and sun hat. Weather can be unpredictable, please bring waterproof jacket in case of rain. No trainers or jeans please.

Lunch: Packed lunch. Please also bring at least 1.5 litre of water.

Toughness: 7 out of 10

Cost: the hike cost £7.50 this covers the hike and Paypal fee. (Train ticket is not included).
