Volunteer at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank

Hi Social media has certainly been a transformative force in our culture, for better, for worse & more... It can be a great way of connecting with amazing people, have some extraordinary experiences and do some great things. And sometimes there are some challenges with some who use provocative fiction to attack innocent folks.. there's a growing phenomenon in online hate. As with anything, it is up to us to take responsibility to increase the positive things & decrease the negative things we do at every opportunity, strive to act in good conscience and achieve something worthwhile. And in that spirit, im hoping everyone can find time to serve and support the The Greater Vancouver Food bank. TO RSVP please join the following group and come on out. We usually get around 10 to 20 people to come out. https://www.meetup.com/Creating-Optimal-Good/ The Greater Vancouver Food Bank is always looking for volunteers and lucky for us - we are always looking for a good cause to volunteer for! A perfect fit! A regular volunteer night has been set up at the Greater Vancouver Food Bank for the Fourth Wednesday of each month. I HAVE TO GIVE THE GVFB A TOTAL NUMBER OF VOLUNTEERS THE DAY BEFORE SO THEY CAN DETERMINE WHAT WORK WILL BE DONE FOR OUR SHIFT. NOT CHANGING YOUR RSVP TO A "NO" BY 9PM THE DAY BEFORE AND NOT SHOWING UP WILL GET YOU MARKED AS A "NO SHOW".**** Below are some of the duties that we will help with during our time with the GVFB. Volunteers help with a variety of tasks in our warehouse and it all depends on the needs for that day, but be prepared for tasks such as:  Sorting and boxing food  Checking "Best Before" and "Expiry dates"  Checking for open packages and dents  Repacking Diapers  Sorting and packing produce Volunteer and Group Requirements: Because of safety concerns in the warehouse, as well as the specific tasks volunteers perform, we have the following requirements for each member of your group: All volunteers must be at least 16 years old and have a GVFB consent form signed by a parent or guardian Volunteers under the age of 19 must be accompanied by an adult All volunteers must have a clear understanding of the English language We can host a minimum of 10 and maximum of 25 volunteers per group – if your group has more than 25 volunteers, we would be happy to arrange for two shifts All volunteers must wear closed toe shoes We welcome volunteers of all abilities. If anyone in your group has physical limitations (lifting, or standing for long periods of time) please let our staff know and we will do our best to accommodate these requests. What to Expect Every volunteer experience is different, but here are some things you should expect when volunteering with us: We ask that everyone sign in upon arriving. Please arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start time of 5PM. We provide locked storage for groups to store their personal belongings, as well as light snacks and beverages. Wear comfortable clothing that can get dirty. The temperature of the warehouse is dependent on the temperature outside. For safety reasons, cell phone use is limited to taking photos in the warehouse. There is a volunteer lounge available for phone calls, emails, and text messages.
