Approx. 5.5-hour moderately difficult hike (excluding breaks), requiring good fitness and solid hiking technique. But this route has it all – vineyards, stunning views, a cozy hut hidden in the forest, and an adventurous descent.
We begin with a flat walk through the famous vineyards before tackling a steep initial ascent. Once we reach the top, we're rewarded with panoramic views and a lush green forest on the other side. We'll take a break at the Fesslhütte for refreshments before heading back to Dürnstein via a longer, rocky descent – in some parts aided by chains for support.
If the group would like to end the day with some Austrian wine, we could visit one of the many local spots before heading home by train.
Water source: None over the route, none at the end train station, Possibility to tank at Fesslhütte
Toilets: The last possibilty will be in the train and then at Fesslhütte
Restaurants: Fesslhütte in two-thirds of the journey
