Phone: +12532158782,,95698542665#,,,,*430947#This weekly online meetup welcomes veteran screenwriters and rookies alike to read some of the best pro spec scripts out there and discuss them. Together we read through mind blowing and inspiring screenplays from the annual Black List, Nicholl Fellowship, Hit List, Blood List, Cannes List and Sundance Lab as well as unproduced gems from Hollywood studio archives, occasionally followed by a live Q&A with the writer.
This meetup works sort of like a book club for great screenplays. Be sure to read the script and then join us on Discord or Zoom to discuss it in-depth.

Upcoming schedule:
(June 11) BOOK SMART by Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins. Romantic Comedy. Featured on the 2009 Black List. Two overachieving high school seniors realize the only thing they haven’t accomplished is having boyfriends, and each resolves to find one by prom.
(June 18) ALL ABOUT EVE by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Drama. 1951 Academy Award for best adapted screenplay. One night, Margo Channing entertains a surprise dressing-room visitor: her most adoring fan, the shy, wide-eyed Eve Harrington. But as Eve becomes a fixture in Margo’s life, the Broadway legend soon realizes that her supposed admirer intends to use her as a stepping-stone to stardom.
(June 25) MOTHERBOY by Tess Brewer. Drama / Psychological Thriller. Featured on the 2024 Black List. When a woman becomes trapped in a snowstorm with her overbearing mother-in-law and husband over the Thanksgiving holiday, she begins to suspect their relationship is not as maternal as it seems. BARBARIAN by way of an erotic, Hallmark holiday movie.
(July 2) SKIN by Matisse Haddad. Horror. Featured on the 2024 Black List. When a youth-obsessed Beverly Hills dermatologist murders her husband’s much younger mistress, she creates an anti-aging serum made of her blood and discovers the only way to stay young forever is to keep killing.
(July 9) HOW TO SAVE A MARRIAGE by Ross Evans. Dark Comedy / Fantasy. Featured on the 2024 Black List. Staying in unhappy marriages turns people into codependent monsters. A movie with elevated world building grounded in an exploration of the human condition … with more than a touch of absurdity.
(July 23) THUMB by Cesar Vitale. Dark Comedy. Featured on the 2024 Black List. When a lonely and socially-stunted young woman mistakenly receives a severed thumb in the mail, she makes it her life’s obsession to return it to the hand it once belonged to — putting her on a collision course that will upend her world forever.
(Aug 6) TURPENTINE by Justin Varava. Dark Comedy. Featured on the 2024 Black List. When a deadbeat son hires his friends to rob his own mother and father in order to pay an outstanding debt to a local drug dealer, things don’t go as planned, and family bonds are stretched to their furthest extremes.

Need feedback on your screenplay? Bring it to the Swap!
How does it work?- Use this form to submit your screenplay to the Swap: https://forms.gle/hZavn3W7p7PF5C5QA
- Then join the voice channel on Discord: https://discord.gg/jADCuWawBk
- During this session, you will be matched up with other writers to swap critiques.
- If you want feedback on your script, you will need to read at least one other script. (If you want two sets of notes, you will need to read two scripts, and so on.) We will try to match everyone with scripts of a similar genre and page length.
- You have one week to read the other person's script.
- At the next session, give your feedback and you shall receive feedback from others!
Remember, to participate and receive critiques, you must attend the entire session on Discord and be willing to swap critiques with others
Feedback Tips:
- Start with the Positive: Begin by highlighting what is genuinely working well in the script. Also consider where this writer is on their journey. Have you noticed improvement compared to their previous scripts?
- Be Specific: Use specific examples from the script to illustrate your points.
- Priorities: What are the most critical suggestions you can share? Concentrate more on the storytelling, characters, and scenework rather than nitpicking minor details. If this is a complete feature or TV pilot, help the writer understand any big structure problems making their story less coherent.
- Characters & Dialogue: Who was driving the story? Did you root for them? Were their scene goals and obstacles clear? Did the dialogue sound distinct for each character and reveal their personality?
- Series Format: For pilots, is there an audience for this show concept? Did you get a sense of what it would be like to watch a typical episode of this show?
- Genre & Tone: Does this script meet the expectations of its intended audience? Does it live up to the premise? Do descriptions and dialogue evoke the right genre-specific mood? Consider how fans of the writer’s genre or comps will respond, even if you are not a fan of this genre.
- Be Considerate: Understand that the writer may be emotionally attached to their work. An empathetic choice of words can help writers process your advice more easily.
