To help you get in the mood for the Dataworks Summit in Munich, I’m happy to announce that Hortonworks Founder Owen O’Malley is visiting Budapest to meet with Hadoop enthusiasts. For those who don’t know Owen yet, he’s one of the supergeeks (http://home.apache.org/~omalley/Owen%20O%27Malley.html) around, with an impressive track record that includes:
- involved in Hadoop since day #1 (https://hortonworks.com/blog/ten-years-of-herding-elephants/) and patch #1 back from the early Nutch DFS and MapRed days
- debugging a Mars Rover command sequencer bug at NASA
- carrying around 30-40 board games in his car trunk at any point in time
Owen is an active developer to this very day, as you can see on ASF JIRA (https://issues.apache.org/jira/issues/?jql=assignee%20in%20(owen.omalley)%20ORDER%20BY%20created%20ASC%2C%20project%20ASC%2C%20assignee%20ASC%2C%20key%20DESC). He’s resolved over 600+ tickets across Hadoop, Hive, ORC, Ambari and many more, and is working on 60+ issues as of now.
