Apache Iceberg has been taking the world by storm and what was once a niche project is now a major player in the industry. Iceberg has an international community of talented engineers from numerous companies including Amazon, Ali-Baba, Cloudera, Dremio, Tabular and ... Apple. While many do not know this, Apple is a strong supporter of OSS and has been actively developing and using Apache Iceberg since its early days. With five members on the PMC, our teams have been driving Iceberg development to make sure that it’s capable of handling world class problems. From Metadata Tables to ZOrdering, Merge on Read row level updates to Vectorized Reads, Apple engineers have been enhancing Iceberg and making sure the community stays open and strong. In this presentation, we’ll talk about the aspects of Apache Iceberg that make it a great fit for our use cases. We’ll also talk about the future of the project, and the various areas we plan on focusing on to tackle what comes next!

This is also your chance to dive into use cases, reference architectures and specific features and capabilities of Apache Iceberg that are transforming data management and data analytics. Learn about Iceberg REST Catalog to drive interoperability across different vendor engines, Iceberg materialised views to drive performance, streaming data into Iceberg to generate near-real time insights, zero-copy cloning, table maintenance and much more.

We will also present new Iceberg capabilities like Branching & tagging, Equality deletes, efficient delete file processing and the industry first Iceberg table Replication support in Cloudera Data Platform. This talk will also cover 3rd party compute engine integration and interoperability with demos. And share Iceberg performance findings, improvements and best practice recommendations.
