With Covid-19, the social distancing requirements change interpersonal relationships on all levels. Many vulnerable groups as well as people in elderly homes experienced situations of total isolation. Social robots could play a supportive role in such situations, as they promise to assist and entertain people even without direct physical contact. Was and is Covid-19 a boost for social robotics? To which extent is it ethical to replace humans with robots in such situations? And what are the associated risks?
