Hey Everyone,

We're excited to announce that David Orban, CEO of Dotsub and Faculty Member at Singularity University, will be leading two discussions at our next Meetup. The discussions will be titled "Living in the Network Society" and "Ontological Cosmology: You Want To Live In A Universe With No Faster Than Light Travel." More information on the event, David, and the topics are included below. We will allocate significant time after each presentation for group discussion.

The event will be sponsored by RRE Ventures, and food will be provided. Please note that the event will be hosted at a new venue: 54 West 21st Street, Suite 404.

Opening - We'll spend the opening 30 minutes discussing the direction of the group and specific topics of focus that we'd like to pursue going forward. The talk will begin at 7:30
David Orban - CEO of New York based Dotsub (, whose platform allows online videos to be captioned and translated into any language, for easy indexing by search engines, and superior engagement by users. He is also a member of the Faculty and an Advisor of Singularity University (, former Chairman of Humanity+ (, the World Transhumanist Association, and the catalyst of the Network Society Project (
Discussion 1: "Living In The Network Society" - Assume that the process of phase change in social organization to decentralized and distributed functions is complete, and the nation state has been mostly replaced, subsumed, or rendered irrelevant by the Network Society ( As Google and Facebook get disrupted by the next generation of systems that practice sound data-ecology, what does the world look like, and how do people live, work and thrive in it?
Discussion 2: "Ontological Cosmology: You Want To Live In A Universe With No Faster Than Light Travel" - There are things you shouldn't want, and FTL travel is one of them. Our reality is too precious to give it up, and the fractal boundaries of it deserve to be explored by more than boringly uniform Jupiter Brains whose computronium hunger swallowed up everything. How can we coexist with symbiotic AGIs ( and have fun together in an unbounded Universe?
