What we’re about
Humanistic Judaism is coming to the Gainesville area. The Humanistic Judaism movement combines attachment to Jewish identity and culture with a human-centered approach to life. It affirms that human beings are independent of supernatural authority and responsible for themselves. Humanistic Jews are committed to freedom, dignity, and self-esteem. At meetings, we discuss the philosophy of Humanistic Judaism, adapt Jewish traditions for those whose needs are not being fully met by other Jewish institutions, and identify opportunities to support social justice. Meetings provide opportunities to meet other atheist, agnostic, secular humanistic and questioning Jews and to exchange experiences as Jews with humanistic values.

Project Esther Discussion Group
OnlineFollowing the release of the Project 2025 report, the Heritage Foundation brought together Christian Zionist and politically conservative groups to produce the report of “Project Esther: A National Strategy to Combat Antisemitism.” The report, released in Oct. 2024, attacks antisemitism but only on the political left. Project Esther’s recommendations have inspired the work of the Trump Administration’s Joint Task Force to Combat Antisemitism, particularly the clampdown on elite universities. This biweekly virtual study group, sponsored by the Gainesville Humanistic Judaism Community, will analyze the report and seek to understand how the Project is influencing efforts to address antisemitism. The group will meet on alternate Thursdays at 7:30 pm. You can download the report at https://www.heritage.org/sites/default/files/2024-10/Project%20Esther.pdf
