Jewish Labor Bund Discussion
Details
Join us to explore the Jewish Labor Bund, a Jewish, Yiddish-speaking, secular, anti-Zionist socialist party in Eastern Europe of the early 20th century. The Bund focused on strengthening freedom wherever Jews lived. Its supporters played important roles in the US labor movement and inspired the creation of secular humanistic Jewish groups. We will read and discuss the new book, “Here Where We Live is Our Country,” by Molly Crabapple, one chapter every two weeks. Her book show how the Bund’s rise and fall contributed to the development of anti-Zionist groups such as Jewish Voice for Peace. Participants should read the relevant chapter before each meeting.
Our first meeting will provide an introduction to the Bund and its significance for Jews and political progressives. No reading required. Register to receive the Zoom link.
