The main trailhead for Blood Mountain is the Byron Reece Memorial Trailhead, located at 9710 Gainesville Hwy, Blairsville, GA 30512, which is a point off the Appalachian Trail (AT) near Neel's Gap. Blood Mountain gets its name from historical battles between the Cherokee and Muscogee-Creek tribes, though other theories suggest it refers to red lichen or rhododendron on the summit.
