Join us for a beautiful fall morning at the Portland Japanese Garden! We’ll meet at 10:30 AM and spend the morning wandering the garden paths, enjoying the beginning of Portland’s fall color, and exploring one of the city’s most beautiful places.

The Garden sits on 12.5 acres in Washington Park and combines nature, art, architecture, and Japanese culture. We can wander at our own pace, stop for photos, explore the galleries, and enjoy the ponds, waterfalls, bridges, stone gardens, maples, and peaceful forest paths.

🍵 There’s more than just the gardens!
Plan a little extra time if you’d like to explore:

• Umami Café – Japanese teas, matcha, sweets, and light bites in a gorgeous building overlooking the hillside. It’s now counter service, so no café reservation is required.
• Gift Shop – A beautifully curated collection of Japanese and Japanese-inspired gifts, home goods, art, and souvenirs.
• Art Galleries – The Garden hosts rotating Japanese art exhibitions, and there will be an exhibition on view during our visit.
• Kashintei Tea House & Tea Garden – The authentic tea house was actually built in Japan, shipped to Portland in pieces, and reassembled inside the Garden!
• Bonsai Terrace – Another fun area to explore while we’re there.

🌿 A few fun Garden facts:
Portland Japanese Garden has been called one of the most beautiful and authentic Japanese gardens outside Japan. One of its most photographed residents is a spectacular Japanese maple in the Strolling Pond Garden that has become famous through National Geographic photography. The Cultural Village was designed to blend architecture into the surrounding landscape rather than compete with it.

Meet at 10:30 AM

Parking in Washington Park is metered and can fill up on weekends, so give yourself a little extra time to park and make your way to the entrance. There is also a free Garden shuttle from the Welcome Center up the hill for anyone who would rather skip the climb. (Portland Japanese Garden⁠)
