5th Galway Data Meetup

The 5th Galway Data Meetup will take place on Wednesday February the 3rd focusing on MongoDB, one of the most popular databases. We will hear from Ronán Bohan, Solutions Architect at MongoDB about the new aggregation framework features, and Sheila Kinsella, Senior Software Engineer at Datahug about scaling a data processing pipeline using MongoDB and Hadoop.

Come early as the supply of pizza, beer and seats will be limited!

• 7:00pm: Sheila Kinsella - Experiences with scaling a data processing pipeline on MongoDB/Hadoop

Sheila will speak about Datahug's recent experiences with scaling their email processing pipeline with Hadoop and MongoDB to reduce the onboarding time for large clients from a couple of days to a few hours. The talk will cover the initial analysis through to rollout and some of the challenges faced along the way.

Sheila Kinsella, Datahug (http://datahug.com)

Sheila (https://www.linkedin.com/in/skinsella) is a Senior Software Engineer at Datahug in Dublin. At Datahug, Sheila focuses on applying data analytics to corporate communications and CRM data for sales forecasting solutions. Sheila holds a Ph.D. from National University of Ireland, Galway on enriching social media items with metadata using structured Web sources.

• 7:30pm: Ronan Bohan - Aggregation Framework Features and Enhancements

We look at the Aggregation Framework in MongoDB, including enhancements made in MongoDB 3.2, the latest version of the leading non-relational, document-based database from MongoDB. In particular we look at the $lookup operator, which provides left-outer join functionality.

Ronán is a Solutions Architect who has been working at MongoDB since June 2014. Prior to that he worked for IBM for 7 years as a software architect. His interests include big data, modern database architecture and Open Source software
