GIT 1.1: Game Development

Welcome to our first meetup of 2024 for the Galway IT group.

We are starting this year with Game Development! And there's no better time of year for it, as the Global Game Jam is on the 26th - 28th of January, including the Galway Game Jam hosted here in PorterShed a Dó.

Come along to the PorterShed a Dó on Market Street, Galway on Tuesday the 16th of January from 6pm-9pm. We will have two short talks about Game Development. The last hour will be focused on networking and socializing, so it's no problem if you have to leave early.

This month's talks are:

Live Game Development by Darren Kearney

Darren will be live coding a game prototype in the manner that one might approach a game jam, to inspire and educate anyone who is interested in game development and has never done a game jam. The audience will gain a clear appreciation for small scope projects and using arbitrary limitations to increase the completeness of your game jam project and encourage creativity to deliver a playable game experience within the bounds of these limitations.

Fire Side Chat with the Galway Game Jam Volunteers

In a relaxed, interview style discussion, we will be answering all of your questions about Game Jams. What are they? Do you need to be a game developer to attend? What to bring along? Do you need a pre-made team? What sort of games have been made at Game Jams?
