New Game AI Meetup with keynote from Chet Faliszek!
Details
Hi everyone,
Yes... it’s been a while, but rest assured, that’s all about to change! As on the 9th November, GAIM’s opening its doors once more, to debate the ‘next stage’ in game narrative. As most of you no doubt noticed, Bossa recently announced a new addition to its team; the former Valve writer behind such titles as Left 4 Dead and Portal, Chet Faliszek. And he’ll be joining us as a keynote speaker!
After all, what good is a conversation about AI, procedural content and the future of game narrative without one of the industry’s top minds on the matter. In fact, he might be touching on a few other topics of interest, too.
So, ears to the ground, people, as more details (including a few other name drops) will be released very soon. In the meantime, make your way over to the ‘sign up’ button, as tickets aren’t gonna hang around.
See you there!
Update
We can now reveal our final two speakers joining Chet!
Speaker 2: Guy Gadney
Guy has worked in digital media for over 20 years, starting as the Head of Digital for Penguin Books in the mid-nineties. He’s led digital strategies and production for television, telco, and online companies in both the UK and Australia.
His new company, To Play For, is his third start-up, focusing on new forms of storytelling using character-based chatbot technologies powered by artificial intelligence. His most recent project was the chatbot-based thriller, The Suspect (www.thesuspect.com (http://www.thesuspect.com/)). In addition, he mentors start-ups through Oxford University's Saïd Business School.
Guy will be discussing what happens when your game characters acquire memory, and how that impacts on story-lines.
Speaker 3: Adam Summerville
Adam Summerville is a PhD student in the Expressive Intelligence Studio at University of California, Santa Cruz. His research focuses on training machines to generate content of all sorts: levels, behaviours, cards, and even full games.
He’s one of the developers of the Indiecade award-winning Bad News, a game that combines Dwarf Fortress style simulation with live improv theatre.
Adam’s talk - “Mystical Tutor - An intelligent Magic:The Gathering design assistant” - will cover machine learning for content creation, specifically in the context of creating a design buddy for human-AI collaboration.
