Hello adventure lovers in Wellington. Start 2026 off with a choose-your-own adventure. You can either hang at a beach, go for a hike, or both!

  • Activity: We’re going to explore the tip of Miramar! We’ll start at Scorching Bay Beach. If you don’t want to hike, you can just hang out at the beach all the time. If you’re keen to move, we’ll do a loop hike up to Mount Crawford and back down again. Once the hiking is over, we can relax on the beach and hang out with a bit of food.
  • Start Time: Saturday 24 January at 10:30am. We’ll wait around for 15 minutes before starting hiking. If you’re late and want to hike, message on the adventure channel on Discord so that me or someone else can let you know where we’re at.
  • Start Location: Scorching Bay Beach. We’ll meet at the public toilets near the south end of the beach.
  • Note: If coming by public transport, the 24 will get you about 10-15 minutes walk from the start point.
  • Minimum Cost: $0.
  • Physical considerations: The hike will take about 1-1.5 hours. It will go up the equivalent of about 50 floors/flights of stairs. Sitting on the beach only requires that you can access the beach itself and move on sand to reach somewhere you want to stop.
  • Duration: The hike is up to 1.5 hours long and then we’ll hang out on the beach for about 30-60 minutes. So budget 3 hours with delays and breaks. But feel free to leave early or stay later if you want.
  • What to bring:
  • If you’re hiking: sunscreen, comfortable shoes, appropriate clothing (including raincoat in case of a light dusting), your own drinks/water, and snacks.
  • If you’re beaching: sunscreen, something to sit on, bathers if you want to swim, portable shade (e.g. umbrella, hat), water, some light snacks to share.
  • If you’re doing both and you’re bringing things for the beach that don’t need to go on a the hike, you can leave that in my car (or your own).
  • Who's welcome: any person at least partly associated with the games industry and as many of their family/friends that would also like to join. Children welcome. Dogs not allowed at the beach, but are welcome on the hike.
  • Contingency plan: If the weather is super bad, we’ll reschedule for a different day later in the month.
  • Other Notes: You don’t need to RSVP if you don’t want to. Just turn up and enjoy.
