Hello adventure lovers in Wellington. This month we’re in search of the best ice cream, cake, donut, and other desserts in Te Aro!

  • Activity: We’re going to visit as many dessert shops as our stomachs can handle!! We’ll leisurely wander between shops and possibly sit down at a couple if people want. You don’t have to eat at every stop or even any stop! The idea is that you might be able to share with other attendees so you can try out more options that you would on your own. And if you don’t like sweet treats, you’re welcome to grab savoury things along the way too.
  • Start Location: Meet at the bucket fountain near 115 Cuba street. From there we’ll decide as a group where to walk to next.
The exact list of which stores we’ll go to will depend on demand from whoever turns up. Some of the places could include: Vonuts, Zelati, Kaffee Eis, Crepes A Go Go, Duck Island Ice Cream, Le Ciel, La Belle Waffle, Gelissimo, Sixes & Sevens, and Belen. We may not loop back around to our start location, but we should always remain close to town and bus stops.
  • Start Time: Saturday 21 February 2026 at 10:30am. We’ll wait around for 15 minutes before starting walking to our first destination. If you’re late, message on the adventure channel on GDOW Discord so that me or someone else can let you know which shop we’re heading to next.
  • Minimum Cost: $0 if you just want to come for the walk. Otherwise, bring funds to buy as many treats as you can handle.
  • Physical considerations: This is a walking tour so you should be comfortable walking for up to 15 minutes at a time. It’s relatively flat in Te Aro and there are benches to sit on an chill if you want and wait while we go to someplace you’re less interested in.
  • Duration: We’ll wander around for about 2 hours. Feel free to leave early or stay later if you want.
  • What to bring: Comfortable city walking shoes; water; palette cleansers (e.g. cucumber) to cope with all the sugar.
  • Who's welcome: any person at least partly associated with the games industry and as many of their family/friends that would also like to join. Children welcome. Dogs can walk with us, but won’t be allowed in the shops.
  • Contingency plan: If the weather is super bad, we’ll go to only one or two locations and sit inside to eat.
  • Other Notes: You don’t need to RSVP if you don’t want to. Just turn up and enjoy.
