Hello adventure lovers in Wellington. This month we’ll be exploring Trelissick park a hidden gem close to a train station and with great options for people to walk a lot or a little.

  • Activity: We’ll meet at the top of the main trail, just past the rail bridge. From there we’ll go downhill a short way to Wightwick’s Field, a wide open grassy area with a picnic table. Once there, we can stop to play field sports (e.g. frisbee, cricket) and setup a picnic area for us. If people want to adventure further, we can follow the river to the Fish Ladder and back again or explore further into the hills and valleys following the Kaiwharawhara stream.
  • Start Time: Sunday 15th March at 1pm. We’ll wait around 10 minutes before starting down the hill. If you’re late, message on the adventure channel on Discord so that me or someone else can let you know how far along we are.
  • Start Location: The start of the Trelissick Park trails. Approximately: 101A Waikowhai Street, Ngaio, Wellington 6035. It is easy to get to via public transport: simply get to Crofton Downs Station, walk down through the Park & Ride carpark and under the bridge. Hopefully there will be parking in the Park & Ride or nearby streets, if you are driving.
  • Minimum Cost: $0.
  • Physical considerations: The walk down to the main field is relatively steep, has a few steps, and is about 5 minutes from the start of the trail. To get back out you’ll have to walk back up that same hill. Once in the Park, the area around the river is pretty flat. You can go up into hills and further along the valleys too if you want more physical exercise. Check out the trail information on All Trails for a bit more information about the main Fish Ladder Loop trail.
  • Duration: We’ll be in the area for 2ish hours. Feel free to leave early or stay later if you want.
  • What to bring: Comfortable walking/hiking shoes, appropriate clothing (including raincoat in case of a light dusting), your own drinks/water, some lunch/food for yourself and/or something to share that we will eat at a picnic table inside the sanctuary. If you have frisbees, cricket stuff, or other games that can be played in a wide field, bring those along as well.
  • Who's welcome: any person at least partly associated with the games industry and as many of their family/friends that would also like to join. Children welcome. The vast majority of these trails are off leash dog trails, so dogs will be very welcome.
  • Contingency plan: If the weather is super bad, we’ll reschedule for a different day.
  • Other Notes: You don’t need to RSVP if you don’t want to. Just turn up and enjoy.
