Hello adventure lovers in Wellington. This month we’re heading to Zealandia for the second time due to popular demand!

  • Activity: Assuming the boat is running, we’ll catch the boat up the lake. Then we’ll go wandering and exploring to spot birds. The goal will be to say hi to the new takahē pair and/or the not-so-new chick. But we’ll just soak up nature and enjoy whichever birds and tuatara want to show themselves to us.
  • Start Time: Sunday 14 June at 1pm. We’ll wait around for 15 minutes before before heading in as a group so that people can get discounted rates if they’re not members. If you’re late, message on the adventure channel on Discord so that me or someone else can let you know where we’re at.
  • Start Location: Just inside the main building on the ground floor near the bathrooms and where there are some information placards.
  • Note: there is a free shuttle that departs from Wakefield St (12:30pm) and top of the Cable Car (12:50pm).
  • Minimum Cost: free if you’re a member; first 5 guests of members will pay $13; remainder will pay $26 (assuming you live in NZ). Hopefully we’ll have enough members attending to cover all attendees.
  • Physical considerations: We’ll be walking on paved tracks, up and down stairs, and on well-beaten, but uneven, paths. There are benches to sit on every 15 or so minutes where we can stop to spot birds. The boat is on a still lake, but might induce sea sickness.
  • Duration: We’ll wander around for about 2 hours. Feel free to leave early or stay later if you want.
  • What to bring: Comfortable shoes that can get a bit muddy, appropriate clothing (including raincoat in case of a light dusting), your own drinks/water, some snacks for yourself to nibble on. If you have binoculars and a big camera, bring them to enhance the bird watching.
  • Who's welcome: any person at least partly associated with the games industry and as many of their family/friends that would also like to join. Children welcome. Dogs not allowed.
  • Contingency plan: If the weather is super bad (e.g. rainy and windy), we’ll reschedule for a different day. If it’s just raining a bit, we’ll still go ahead.
  • Other Notes: You don’t need to RSVP if you don’t want to. Just turn up and enjoy.
